Simple steps week 5
You may have noticed that we recuperated for a week. One new habit a week is ambitious and 4 is well, accelerated, I think. And this week is going to be ambitious for me… Now it’s time for week 5 of the Simple Steps program. Each week the program introduces 4 new habits, one each for nutrition, fitness, home and self. The trick is that they accumulate, so obviously, you have to keep doing the ones from the previous weeks. This week’s habits are:
- reduce caffeine intake
- practice 15 minutes of yoga each day
- get rid of the mail pile on your counter
- find 10 minutes of solitude every day
I realize that when I fall into a regular daily yoga routine, it is during the summer months, when we are not as busy. So the difficulty for me is in finding time now, since most of my yoga dvds are at least 30 minutes long.
I love to wake up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee, and although I don’t have a really sweet tooth, I’ve been known to indulge with cola or dark chocolate. Cutting back on coffee just requires a little imagination; a smaller coffee pot, for example, or a water bottle between cups. Here is how I cut back on coffee when I was pregnant. Instead of unlimited black coffees (back in the days when a trip to the lunch room for coffee was the non-smoker’s break), I would limit myself to one or two ‘cafe au laits’… 3/4 cup of warmed milk with sugar and a tiny layer of coffee on top…
So the plan for this week is to somehow re-incorporate yoga practice into my life, and drink more water, less coffee.
