Simple steps week 3

It’s week 3 of the Simple Steps program. Each week the program introduces 4 new habits, one each for nutrition, fitness, home and self. The trick is that they accumulate, so obviously, you have to keep doing the ones from the previous weeks. This week’s (new) habits are:

  1. Take a multivitamin every day
  2. Be aware of your posture and breathing every day
  3. Clear your desktop & keep it organized
  4. Cleanse and moisturize daily

I’ve been reading up on multivitamins for the past week. I’ve always believed that it is more important to get vitamins and minerals from choosing a healthy diet. Information on the benefits of taking a multivitamin is conflicting. People can always seem to find a study to support their own viewpoint, whatever that may be.

After wading through tons of articles on the subject, I’ve come to two conclusions. First, taking a multivitamin is not a substitute for a healthy diet and lifestyle. Second, it may be difficult to always reach the daily recommended vitamins that our bodies need, so for most healthy people, taking a multivitamin can’t hurt, and may be a good defense against a variety of illnesses. (I should add, definitely check with your doctor first, especially if you have health concerns.)

So I’m off to visit my local health food stores, and try to find the best possible multivitamin. It will be interesting to see if we experience any benefits.

  1. Actually, I’m glad to admit that I’m on top of this week. I found that even though I do eat a healthy diet, I need multivitamins, particularly ones with iron. When I don’t take it, I do feel the difference.
I have a little problem with maintaining good posture, but I’m working on it. Great post!

  2. Good for you Keli! I’m glad to hear that you notice a difference with taking the vitamins-that’s what I’m hoping for too ;) My desk is probably the most challenging for me this week…it’s big and it doesn’t take long for stuff to pile up once I have it cleared…various cd’s, a library book, kids artwork to scan, correspondence…

  3. Straddled with the health issue’s related to my transplant, I guess you can look upon the fact that I am regularly tested in Hospital and am on top of my latest successes and deficiences, in two ways.

The positive side means my doctor’s know if I’m lacking potasium, iron etc and can take action.

Multi vitamins are a thorny issue, and your post summed the situation up beautifully in my opinion. You should get all of your daily requirements from a healthy diet with variety, but topping your bod up with good multi vitamins is no bad thing, as explained to me by doctors and professors on numerous occasions. Just don’t go crazy and take several different ones, as you really don’t need them.

Just for the record, I’ve taken Omega 3 oil tablets (1000mg) for many years, along with Glucosamine Sulphate (1000mg) and Vitamin C (1000mg), and specifically tailored multi vitamins catering for us forty something’s.

Back to your post, and posture is something I really need to work on.I slouch where I’m tall. I do moisturize daily though, regardless of male friends taking the mickey out of me.
