Sand sculpture classic canceled

Today I learned that the Harrison Hot Springs sand building competition will be canceled this year, due to lack of sponsors. For the past two summers, we’ve had a lot of rainy weekends, so that and financial losses are the causes. I have to admit, we’ve done our share of viewing the art from behind the fence. The entrance fees in my opinion are not realistic for many families. This cancellation will not make any difference to the number of times we visit. (If you’ve missed it in my previous posts, it’s one of my favorite weekend excursions.)
There are many fun things to do as a family at Harrison Hot Springs. Harrison is one of the largest lakes in southwestern BC so there’s lots of boating and swimming and beach, as well as hiking and of course, the actual hot springs. There is a lot of wildlife, not to mention the sasquatch viewings it is famous for. On the way to Harrison are Minter Gardens, Dino Town, water slide parks, and golf courses. Despite the many visitors it entertains, it is still a friendly, artistic and unassuming community.
The World Championship Sand Sculpture Classic has been hosted by Harrison Hot Springs for 18 years. There are some fabulous sand art photos of previous entries here.

That’s too bad that it’s cancelled. It’s always a marvel to view what artists can do with sand. We visit one (for free) in Carmel, CA. Harrison Hot Springs sounds lovely!
Hi Keli,
I know, it’s amazing what they accomplish with sand, water and imagination! Nice that you have one close by too… I would like to visit California some day.
