Evolution
Sometimes all of the available information about our environment and the challenges we’re facing seems overwhelming. I’ve found that whatever your goals, it can help to focus on one simple change. Here are some lifestyle choices that I’ve been implementing:
- BYOB. Plastic bags are ugly. Grab a tote or backpack when you leave the house.
- Conscientious shopping. “How you spend your money is how you vote on what exists in the world.” - (Vicki Robin)
- Go natural. Cut back on the chemicals you are using. (I’m not yet sure how practical this is, but I’m having fun experimenting!)
- Streamline. Donate or recycle excess. It’s very energizing!
What works for you? Focus on one thing you can do!

Hi! Here’s our list of things: (1) We use the green cloth bags when shopping locally. (2) Buying food & groceries on line to save petrol. (3) Cleaning products made from natural ingredients. (4) All unwanted goods put in Salvation Army Bins. (5) Plant trees & plants that depend on rainfall only (6) Use of mulch on the garden to retain moisture (7) Switch off all electrical items from the power source when not in use. (8) Buy paper products made from recycled pulp. Just to name a few! Regards Peter from Downunder!
Hi! I have been recycling for some time now and it feels great to know that you are helping to take care of the environment.
Have a lovely day!
Hi Peter,
Thanks for sharing your list!
That’s a great idea to buy online (saves you time as well!) I live within walking distance of most of my errands, so health-wise and environmentally it’s a bonus. I also am working on natural cleaning products. Vinegar & baking soda are very versatile
Hi Wen, Thanks for visiting! It does feel good to recycle. My Dad is my inspiration, he’s down to one little plastic shopping bag of garbage every 3 weeks or less… I’m not there yet! It’s nice to have goals to work towards…
Very good points and you’re right - all the information can be overwhelming. I would add one more to your list: Eat organic. Just the mere thought of pesticides in the air makes me feel ill.
That is a great addition Keli. I tend to do things in baby steps, and although I’m not yet buying all organic, I am reading labels and trying to buy local. It doesn’t make sense to buy produce from Mexico, or countries even more distant.
