Walk strong
It’s an ongoing goal of mine to keep increasing my steps on the pedometer until 10K is a normal day. As the kids’ fall schedules kick into full swing this coming week, I’m looking forward to 10K+ days on a regular basis!
This past week when I was still recuperating, I checked out Leslie Sansone’s Walk Away the Pounds-Walk Strong. I know that there are many WATP fans out there, but this was my first experience with it.
This is definitely a low impact workout–basically, just walking pretty much in place, with various kicks and lunges thrown in. This workout adds strength training as well. Leslie has 5 women doing the workout, with varying degrees of weights from none, up to 5-lb dumbbells. The walking is interspersed with 3 minute weight training intervals to sculpt and shape upper and lower body.
Like any workout, you get into it what you put into it, and I was feeling pretty good when I finished up. Leslie claims that this workout burns the equivalent energy of doing two miles. I didn’t check the mileage on my pedometer, but it did add an extra 2000 steps for me. On paper, that should be one mile, but taking into account all the side steps, lunges and weight lifting that wouldn’t register as steps, I’ll accept two miles.
I would recommend Walk Strong as a non-threatening 30 minute aerobic and strengthening workout that will help to tone (as well as increase pedometer steps!) Walking in nature has always been one of my favorite activities; this season there are days it is helpful to have an alternative to braving the elements outdoors.

A good post. Everyone needs more exercise. In general we, are a lazy overweight society. Good to hear someone is putting out the word!
Later…
Good tip for those days when walking outdoors isn’t possible. I too prefer walking in nature which I try to do at least five times per week. But with the cooler weather, it’s nice to have this workout as an alternative.
Remember, no pain no gain. Keep up the good work. Bye for now I’m off to do time on my walker.
Regards
Peter
