Hard body yoga with Tari Rose review

I’m a little achy today, especially my abs and thighs. Yesterday I did the Hard-Body Yoga with Tari Rose workout dvd. The dvd has the option of doing the full workout, or separate chapters for warm up, body work, abs, and cool down stretch. I chose the full workout. Tari is an enthusiastic instructor, encouraging and pleasant.

The warm up is the sun salutation. This I think is the most yoga-ful (if you can’t find the right word, make it up!) portion of the dvd. The body work stage consists of a series of strength exercises, like squats while pulsing your arms above your head, dolphin push ups with leg lifts, side planks and bridge work, to name a few.

What was new for me is that the instructor would slip in a slow motion rep every once in a while. Try doing a dolphin push up to the count of 10–fun! The ab work was also very concentrated, with slow counts thrown in.

I didn’t feel that I was getting ‘all the benefits of yoga’, as the cover claimed, because with the repetitions and abruptness between moves, it was more endorphin-producing than nourishing. The other drawback for me was the length–an hour! She did make good use of the hour though, and I am feeling it today!

Tari Rose promises a long, lean, strong, flexible body if you do this workout 3 times a week, and I believe her. This workout challenges the whole body.

  1. My Saturday Yoga was a level II - she threw in some pilates type crunches and then planks/crocidiles/updogs that she kept repeating for 15 minutes - she seemed to take pleasure in my groans - like she was punishing me for taking a week off for my trip!

  2. I’ve been searching for a good yoga tape/dvd for a long time. I feel most just don’t do anything for me. This Tari Rose one sounds good. An hour does sound long, but from your description, worthwhile - thanks!
