The best life diet
I just finished reading The Best Life Diet by Bob Greene, who is probably best known for helping Oprah lose weight. The title is a bit misleading, in that I found the book to be more about making healthy lifestyle choices and adding healthy foods to your diet than dietary restrictions. The Best Life Diet is divided into three phases, gradually altering your habits, and reevaluating at the end of each phase.
In Phase One, you establish your activity level, and the goal is to increase it. Activity level is measured by aerobic exercise, strength training and steps per day.
Level 0 is the activity level where you take less than 3500 steps per day, and get absolutely no aerobic or strength training.
Level 5 is the highest activity level that he lists, and it’s for people that have made exercise a way of life. Steps per day are approximately 18000 or more, or aerobic workouts 6 times per week, strength training at least 3 times per week.
Once you have evaluated what level you are currently at, the goal is to go to the next level.
This book is full of great advice, from nutrition to exercise, easy to follow meal plans and understanding hunger. He offers many helpful tips, and even some delicious looking recipes, like Fire Roasted Salsa Guacamole.
If you are looking for a short term quick results diet, this is probably not the book for you. If you are interested in doable changes that you can make for long term health, fitness, and weight loss, I definitely recommend taking a look at this book.
Bob Greene also offers the best life diet.

What a great title! I’m not on a diet, but I love finding new recipes and am always interested in nutrition and exercise. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks Keli! The title was what drew me to read the book too-I personally am not a ‘diet’ person, especially with impressionable children at home. We try to stress taking care of our bodies, and what keeps us healthy and strong. But I am always interested in new recipes, positive and manageable nutritional advice. And active living
