Meditation - a definition
Embraced in the moment’s elegant sufficiency, we passionately dance with life…
Meditation is a practice that has benefited humanity across cultures since early ages. It’s potential to transform lives is not limited by physical, economic or cultural circumstances.
Before writing about the benefits, I thought a broad definition would be useful, since even the term may scare off people who have a certain image of it.
Yet meditation encompasses so many methods and philosophies that I find it a challenge to summarize in a few sentences.
It is an intention, a state of being, a dynamic process.
I like the beautifully written words of Camille Maurine & Lorin Roche in their book Meditation Secrets for Women:
“…luxuriating in the sensory world, resting in the simplicity of your own being, enjoying yourself shamelessly…When we give over to this basic need, every cell, every fiber of body and soul can receive and come alive…The simple pleasure of being completely at home in the body puts us in rapport with the ongoing rhythms of nature…we feel closer to the processes of life…”
The body is comfortable, relaxed yet attentive, breathing regulated. The attention turns inward, focusing on the moment.
I come to the conclusion that just as every body finds their own path in meditation, the definition itself may be a personal process as well. I am interested in hearing your thoughts.

A nice post. Any form of meditation is good for the soul and spirit, particularly when you feel overwhelmed. I have always found a visit to the river, even for a few minutes, allows the opportunity to clear the mind and to revitalize the spirit!
