Active kids
Summer can be challenging for keeping kids active; whether it’s simply ‘too hot’ to do anything, or they are rained in. Here are some of the ways that we’re finding to stay active with the children this summer:
- Arrange for them to meet friends at a park or playground.
- Go for a hike.
- Spend a day at the beach. Bring the frisbee.
- Skateboard.
- Ride a bike.
- Put on a kids fitness DVD, like Denise Austin’s Fit Kids.
- Jump on a trampoline.
- Spend a few hours at the pool, preferably with enough kids for volleyball or ‘marco-polo’.
- Walk instead of drive. Explore your community. Visit the museum, aquarium, library.
- Roller skate.
- Try out new sports. The local rec center has lots of summer camp options for children to try out new activities.
- Shoot some hoops.
- Jump rope.
- Work in the garden or wash the car together.
Or just turn off the electronics, and admire their creativity. Children are truly inventive when it comes to fun and games.
